Our bespoke leaded panels are hand made in the traditional fashion, using coloured glass pieces and lead. They are fully weather proof, for use as normal external glazing as well as interior decoration. They may be incorporated within double-glazed units.

    Stained glass designs

    • stained glass designs
I design, produce and install new stained glass panels and leaded lights in many different designs - traditional and modern.

I can work with you and your designs to produce new  panels & prepare & execute designs from your ideas & brief or come up with design ideas for you.

      We make stained glass:

      • House names and door numbers
      • Copies of traditional designs, typically Victorian and Edwardian
      • Front door panels
      • Fanlights and transoms
      ...more

    Leaded lights

    • leaded lights made in Somerset
Square, rectangular and diamond paned leaded lights made to order.

As well as more decorative leaded glass panels I make traditional leaded lights with diamond, square  or rectangular shaped 'quarries'. - the individual pieces of usually plain uncoloured glass, set together in lead with a width and profile appropriate to the location and appearance required.

These individual pieces of usually plain uncoloured glass, are set together in lead with a width and profile appropriate to the location and appearance required.

    Repairs & restoration

    • stained glass repairs and restoration, Somerset
Sometimes a broken piece of glass may be replaced in situ without needing to remove the panel from the door or window.

When there are several pieces broken and if the panel is badly deformed, bowing or in poor condition it will be better to remove the panel for rebuilding with new lead, keeping as much of the original glass as possible.

Repair and restoration work aims to fully respect the original work, the building & the client's needs, as well as any listing requirements.

    Methods

    • Stained glass methods and technique
We use very tradtional methods and materials.  We access most of the suppliers and importers of materials, aiming to use the most appropriate for the job.

Designs are prepared using specialist design software, and clients are provide with a colour visual of the design.

We work with lead cames  and coloured glass, cut by hand to the design, fitted together, the lead joints fluxed  and soldered together, cemented in with a special putty and finally polished.

If required we will fit the finished work, but will also supply only.

    Commissioning

    • Stained glass desing and commissions
For new work we prepare designs and drawings from your ideas and brief, we can also suggest design ideas,

it’s helpful to have a good idea of what you are looking for – which might involve matching or complementing existing glass panels or creating something completely new.

We provide a colour visual for the client and have lots of samples showing the various glass colours and textures.  We always provide a written estimate, and request a deposit before starting making.

    Fitting

    • fitting stained glass
Fitting a leaded glass panel is very unlike regular glazing, and we usually fit our own work.

For self-fitters we have quite comprehensive fitting guidance.
Stained glass and leaded lights often need additional support by means of steel bars set into the frame and fixed to the panel with copper tie-wires – very traditional and necessary.

Where additional protection is needed – against accidental or criminal damage, installation behind panes of either laminated or toughened glass may be possible.
